Distracted driving in work zones is a significant safety concern for state departments of transportation. Of the many mitigation strategies employed, this research indicates that temporary portable rumble strips tend to have a more consistent positive effect in reducing distracted driving than other methods.

The TRB National Cooperative Highway Research Program's NCHRP Research Report 1037: Reducing Risks to Worker Safety in Work Zones Due to Distracted Drivers identifies and evaluates temporary traffic control strategies aimed at reducing worker safety risks due to distracted driving in work zones.

Supplemental to the report is a presentation summarizing the project and results.
