Many diploma nursing schools also maintain social, recreational, health, administrative, and similar services that are regarded as university overhead activities for a degree nursing school. Diploma schools that are hospital based usually have no control over the amount of indirect expenses allocated to them. All other things being equal, if the hospital's maintenance and operating costs increase from one year to the next, the nursing school's allocated portion of these costs can also be expected to increase.
