115 APPENDIX C Tables for the Common Electronic Fare System Timeline Appendix C contains details about the deployment history of common electronic fare systems. The tables included in chapter two describe details about the programs shown in the timeline graphics (Figures 1 and 2). Smart cards were separated from mobile fare apps to show the explosive deployment of mobile technologies since their initial appearance in the North America in 2012. In addition, since 1998, about 40 smart card systems have been deployed while in only four years (one-quarter of the time) more than 21 mobile fare systems have been launched. Based on agency announcements and procurements, mobile app deployments will double by 2017. TABLE C1 Smart Card Timeline Table This Smart Card Timeline table describes the labels shown in Table C1. Figure 1 lays out the deployment sequence of common electronic fare systems for multimodal and multiagency systems since the initial deployment in 1998. The Smart Card Timeline table identifies the geographic region in which the system was deployed, the program name (which corresponds to the label on the timeline), participating agencies (as of June 2016), and the initial deployment date. Projects expected to be launched in the near future are also included in this table and in the timeline figure. TABLE C2 Mobile Fare App Timeline Table The mobile fare app, although just beginning to be deployed, is a form of Multiagency Electronic Fare Payment system. Many support multiple agencies or enable agencies to integrate fare products with event tickets as was initially done by Capital Metro (Austin) and South by Southwest (SXSW) event in 2014 and again in 2015. Table C2 corresponds to Figure 2, the Mobile Fare App Timeline. The table describes the region where the app was deployed, the program name (which corresponds to the label in the timeline), the agency or agencies that use the fare app and the initial rollout date. Several deployments started out as a pilot, some have been discontinued (e.g., LIRR and MNR each had a short pilot and are not on the list); the pilot designation is shown on the timeline, not in the table. The time line also includes a list of projected deployments scheduled for late 2016 and 2017.
