A-1 A P P E N D I X A Survey Questionnaire Dear State Maintenance Engineer: The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is preparing a synthesis of practice on Design and Maintenance Practices for Urban Freeway Roadside Vegetation. This is being done for NCHRP, under the sponsorship of AASHTO, in cooperation with FHWA. The goal of the study is to document current practices used by transportation agencies to address design and maintenance of vegetation along high visibility urban freeways with limited pedestrian access, such as wider medians, interchanges, and overpasses. This survey is being sent to voting members of the AASHTO Committee on Maintenance. If someone else in your agency is better able to respond to this survey, please forward the survey or contact the PI for changes to the recipient listing and we will re-issue the invitation if needed. Participants are encouraged to share the survey response effort among personnel by following instructions provided on the first page of the survey. The questionnaire covers urban roadside landscape development and maintenance issues such as illegal and other unauthorized use of the right of way, work zone safety, cooperative maintenance agreements, training, and roadside maintenance costs. The web-based survey can be accessed at the following link: Please complete and submit this survey AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you have any questions, or would like assistance completing the survey, please contact our principal investigator Beverly Storey at b-storey@tti.tamu.edu, 979-845-7217. We realize that your time is limited and appreciate that you are willing to help us. Best regards, Beverly Storey
