Workshop Agenda
DAY 1 (APRIL 20)
11-11:25am | Welcome, Orientation |
This session will orient participants to the workshop’s goals and outcomes, as well as to the technology that will be used to complement the meeting’s discussions.
11:25am-12:15pm | Session 1: The Evaluation of Sexual Harassment Prevention Efforts in Higher Education Institutions |
This session will introduce to what is known on how higher education institutions are approaching sexual harassment prevention and evaluation, the reasons why an institution would and/or should evaluate |
its prevention efforts, barriers to evaluation, and evidence-based suggestions for the evaluation process. Following a brief presentation, a stakeholder panel will share their reflections and engage in a conversation with the broader group.
12:15-12:45pm | Break |
12:45-1:45pm | Session 2: Measures and Metrics |
This session will focus on existing measures and predictors of organizational outcomes that might be used in sexual harassment prevention evaluation to understand their effectiveness.
Following three “flash” presentations, workshop participants will be broken out into their case study |
subgroups to discuss and brainstorm how measures and metrics might be applied to that specific example, and to consider what other measures and metrics could be useful for this case study.
1:45-2:15pm | Break |
2:15-3:15pm | Session 3: Applicable Frameworks |
This session will explore basic principles of implementation science and prevention science and how they might be used to more effectively carry out and evaluate prevention efforts.
Session 3A: Implementation Science
This session will highlight how implementation science, which has been used primarily within medical and public health contexts, might be used in higher education institutions to bridge the research-practice gap and facilitate data-driven improvement of prevention efforts.
Session 3B: Prevention Science
This session will explore how prevention science has been, is currently, and could be applied to sexual harassment evaluation in higher education, including how institutions might determine appropriate outcomes and goals. |
3:15-3:30pm | Break |
3:30-4:00pm | Session 4: Frameworks in Practice |
Presenters from Session 3 will walk participants through how implementation science and prevention science might be applied to some of the specific case studies being considered in the meeting.
4:00-4:20pm | Session 5: Discussing Frameworks |
Participants will re-enter their case study subgroups to discuss their reactions to the framework presentations, consider how they might be applied in the context of their case study, and recognize limitations that may arise. |
4:20-4:55pm | Session 6: Small Group Report-out |
Returning back to the main session, each case study subgroup will share the highlights of their discussions over the course of the day.
4:55-5pm | Adjourn |
National Academies’ staff will close the meeting.
DAY 2 (APRIL 21)
11-11:30am | Welcome and Recap of Day 1 |
Following a brief welcome, this session will set the stage for Day 2 by way of an expert synthesis of Day 1 conversations. This will involve a synthesis of the ideas shared by participants thus far, an exploration of emerging connections and themes across sessions, a summary of what is still unknown and/or undiscussed, and reflections on next steps.
11:30am-12:30pm | Session 1A: Evaluation in Practice: Considerations and Limitations |
This session is a candid conversation between key stakeholders (evaluation experts, sexual harassment experts, practitioners, and institutional leaders) around their experiences with carrying out evaluation work, while considering structural barriers and factors limiting our shared advancement in this space. A major goal of this session will be to identify “sticking points” in the evaluation of interventions and engage in a group conversation (both among the panelists and all workshop participants) about how to overcome those barriers.
12:30-1pm | Break |
1-2:30pm | Session 1B: Intervention Evaluation in Action |
This session will highlight organizations that have had success with aspects of evaluating their interventions, including a walk-through of how they conceptualized their evaluation plans, what they saw as “success,” and what progress is being made toward that goal.
2:30-3pm | Break |
3-3:45pm | Session 2: Applying Workshop Concepts and Discussions to Case Studies—Breakout Session |
Workshop participants will reconvene in subgroups to generate a hypothetical concept plan for their case study while having an explicit conversation around addressing limitations, challenges, and barriers.
3:45-4:00pm | Break |
4:00-4:50pm | Session 3: Beyond a Workshop: Stakeholder Reflections |
This session will create a space for all workshop participants to collectively reflect on next steps for the workshop’s topic. This will be facilitated by a panel of individuals who will share their reflections on the conversations that have taken place, what conclusions they’re drawing from the workshop and/or how they might use this information moving forward, and what the future might hold for this topic.
4:50-5pm | Closing Remarks |
National Academies’ staff will close the meeting.
