106 A P P E N D I X A Survey Questionnaire NCHRP SYNTHESIS 20-05, TOPIC 51-03 TEMPORARY PAVEMENT MARKINGS PLACEMENT AND REMOVAL PRACTICES IN WORK ZONES QUESTIONNAIRE LETTER TO THE RESPONDENT Dear Participant, The Transportation Research Board (TRB), through the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), under the sponsorship of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is preparing a synthesis report on Temporary Pavement Markings Placement and Removal Practices in Work Zones. The objective of this synthesis study is to review and document the policies and processes used by state DOTs for placement, maintenance, and removal of pavement markings in work zones. To view the scope of this synthesis, please click this link. Completion of this synthesis will assist state DOTs with identifying practices for placement of temporary pavement markings and removal of pavement markings in work zones and thereby help to enhance roadway safety and operations. Your cooperation in completing this survey will help to ensure the success of this synthesis project. This survey is being sent to one person from each state DOT. You have been identified as the appropriate person at your DOT to complete this survey. The survey link that you received is unique for your DOT. If it would be more appropriate for someone else at your DOT to take this survey, please forward the email with the survey link to them or send their name and email address to Henry Brown (brownhen@missouri.edu). Additional instructions are provided at the beginning of the survey. If you would like to see a preview of the full survey, please click here.

Agencies must consider many factors, such as work zone duration and weather conditions, in selecting appropriate pavement marking materials to effectively guide drivers through work zones.

The TRB National Cooperative Highway Research Program's NCHRP Synthesis 574: Temporary Pavement Markings Placement and Removal Practices in Work Zones addresses the need for more knowledge on which different types of temporary markings are suitable for specific conditions.
