Appendix D
Statement of Task
An ad hoc committee will plan, organize, and implement a 1-day public workshop to explore the role of drug control policies on the health of individuals and communities of color. The committee will define the specific topics to be addressed, develop the agenda, select and invite speakers, and moderate discussions during the workshop. A summary of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
Interest in this topic comes from an earlier workshop focusing on incarceration and its effects on the health of individuals and communities of color, for both incarcerated and non-incarcerated people.
Topics for discussion may include harm reduction programs, the role of drug courts in mitigating sentencing outcomes, and community-based interventions to reduce drug-related crimes and arrests.
