164 Case Example Questionnaire for Asset Management A P P E N D I X C 2 APPENDIX C2 – CASE EXAMPLE QUESTIONNAIRE FOR ASSET MANAGEMENT The objective of this synthesis is to document the various technologies used by DOTs to inspect highway infrastructure during construction and maintenance of assets. Information to be gathered includes: • The technologies used for inspection of new and existing highway infrastructure assets, focusing on geospatial technologies, remote sensing and monitoring, mobile software applications, and nondestructive evaluation methods; • The different methods used to assess the viability, efficiencies, and return on investment (ROI) of inspection technologies; and • How information from these assessments is being used (e.g., for construction project management, to allocate resources, to determine the condition of assets). AGENCY: _____________________________________________ INTERVIEWEE: _________________________________________ TIME AND DATE: _______________________________________ GENERAL INFORMATION 1. What division or section at your agency do you work in? Construction Asset Management Operations and Maintenance Other, please specify: __________________________ 2. Historically, state departments of transportation (DOTs) have employed on-site workforces to execute infrastructure inspection using traditional inspection methods.

The TRB National Cooperative Highway Research Program's NCHRP Synthesis 582: Highway Infrastructure Inspection Practices for the Digital Age documents the various technologies - such as unmanned aircraft systems (UASs), embedded and remote sensors, intelligent machines, mobile devices, and new software applications - used by DOTs to inspect highway infrastructure during construction and maintenance of assets.
