U.S. Leadership of the UN Decade of Ocean Science US NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE UN DECADE OF OCEAN SCIENCE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT From 2021-2030, the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development will focus scientific initiatives across the globe on the science needed to ensure sustainable use of ocean resources and long-term ocean health. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine serves as the organizational center for coordination of scientific initiatives to inspire U.S. contributions to the Decade. • The U.S. National Committee for the Ocean Decade encourages participation and serves as a communication channel for the U.S. ocean science community through- out this international effort. The committee meets regularly to: • Enable routine, cross-sectoral coordination and collaboration within the U.S. on relevant initiatives • Develop, produce, and disseminate information regarding UN Decade events to the broad community of ocean stakeholders in the U.S. and relevant international scientific organizations. • Provide oversight for activities and convene annual meetings in support of coordi- nation function 6
