Public Workshops JUNE 22, 2022 The Shaping the Dialogue working group hosted a public webinar, Views & Voices: Reporting Genetics and Genomics, which explored the perceived “crisis of credibility” in genomics and precision health and the role of reporters in communicating science within the clinical and public spaces. Journalists from a variety of outlets serving audiences ranging from experts to members of the public provided their perspectives. Speakers discussed ways for scientists to better communicate with journalists and their experiences with external pressures that influence what and how members of the media report. REALIZING THE POTENTIAL OF GENOMICS ACROSS THE CONTINUUM OF PRECISION HEALTH CARE: A WORKSHOP (OCTOBER 12, 2022) URL: https://www.nationalacademies.org/event/10-12-2022/realizing-the-potential-of-genomics-across- the-continuum-of-precision-health-care-a-workshop This workshop examined how genomic data are used in health care settings and identified opportunities for the advancement of precision health care delivery. The goal was to examine strategies to ensure that genomic applications are responsibly and equitably adopted to benefit populations and individuals over time. Some of the suggested solutions to barriers to adoption included the creation of training and education for clinicians and patients; recognizing and dismantling racism in the health care system; coverage of genomic testing by payers; enhancing electronic health record systems to support genomic results; and rethinking patient–physician interactions to allow for more time to discuss genetic testing. Patients and patient advocates shared their own experiences and discussed how improved adoption of genomic testing can benefit patients and families. 4  |  Annual Report 2022

The members and staff of the Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health continue to work toward their vision of realizing the full potential of health for all through genomics and precision health by bringing together diverse voices to encourage innovation and actions that foster the wide adoption of and equitable access to the benefits of genomics and precision health. During 2022, Roundtable members explored topics such as the value of and protections for genomic data and the policies surrounding them; reporting of genetics and genomics advances for both scientific audiences and the general public; workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in industry; and challenges and opportunities for the adoption of genomics outside of the traditional genetics clinic.
