As shown in Figure 1-7, the number of animals acquired annually by the zoo was fairly stable from 1993 through 1999, but starting in 2000, there was decrease in the number of animals acquired by the zoo annually, with a 67 percent decrease in annual acquisitions from 1999 to 2002. Even though annual acquisitions of animals remained relatively stable throughout the 1990s, the size of the animal collection continued to decline.
