The general focus of her research is on the implications of behavioral and social functioning at the level of the individual, small group, institution, or community for cancer prevention and control.

She has also been involved in numerous projects at the national level focused on integrating genomics into public health programs, including the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control's Genomics Competencies for the Public Health Workforce effort and two retreats for Chronic Disease Directors.
