... His research on software paved the way for the widespread use of computers in science and engineering. Ken graduated summa cum laude from Rice University in 1967 and returned four years later, after earning one of the first doctorates in computer science awarded by New York University (NYU)

Remembered at Rice for his love of students and of teaching, Ken was a Ph.D.
