Generalized anaphylaxis is an acute, often explosive, systemic reaction characterized by pruritus, generalized flush, hives, respiratory distress, and vascular collapse and, occasionally, by seizures, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and incontinence. The infection is characterized by a pink, discrete, and confluent macular exanthem and is usually preceded by rhinorrhea, sore throat, and bulbar and, occasionally, palpebral conjunctivitis.
