Emphasis should be on studies of human beings and other primates, and investigator-initiated research grants should continue to be the primary vehicle of support. RECOMMENDATIONS In view of the demonstrated high potential of risk to human health that has been associated with the use of cannabis, the existing funds allocated to such research are not appropriate.
