9POTENTIAL CROSSOVER TECHNOLOGY The magnetometer has been researched as a way to count aircraft operations. Magnetometer technology is currently used at airport security checkpoints to detect metal devices on travelers.

10 Seven of the 19 respondents count traffic all year round or during the operational seasons of the airport; therefore, theoretically, they count all the operations rather than take a sample. Six of the 19 respondents that sample airport traffic take samples in all four seasons and use a seasonal or monthly adjustment factor to extrapolate the sample into an annual count.
