This synthesis project was conducted to gather information about the experiences of transit operators using these flexible transit services.

... 2 • Although many flexible services require previous-day reservations for demandresponsive pick-ups or drop-offs, the experiences of other systems shows that much shorter advance notice requirements are possible, with or without the use of advanced technology. • Fare surcharges for off-route service may be useful as a way to encourage riders to board and alight at established stops.
