Littlefield was a program manager in the Tactical Technology Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from 2011 to 2017, during which time he managed programs in unmanned sea systems, including DARPA's Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel program, which led to the development of a large unmanned surface vessel prototype that has since transitioned to the Navy as a medium displacement unmanned surface vessel.
