... 29   Stakeholder Outreach An engagement plan was designed to maximize the capture of valuable feedback related to CAVs and work zones from a range of contacts across agencies, industry, and organizations. A variety of techniques for engaging stakeholders were considered, with the decision to focus on a multi-staged, iterative approach allowing the initial capture of feedback at the individual level through a survey followed by focus groups and directed interviews to gather additional feedback in an open-discussion setting.

... 30 Preparing Transportation Agencies for Connected and Automated Vehicles in Work Zones A summary of the survey organization, along with key themes and focus areas targeted follows; the full survey is provided in Appendix A: • Brief Introduction – Project background – Purpose of the survey – Intended recipients (and request to distribute further) – Analysis plan – Feedback preference (online versus interview)
From page 31...
... Stakeholder Outreach 31 • Closing – Method of survey completion (individual or group) – Willingness to support focus group The project team pursued opportunities to "get the word out" and establish relationships with organizations that would be willing to assist.

... 34 Preparing Transportation Agencies for Connected and Automated Vehicles in Work Zones to move the conversation forward. This group setting was used to gather additional feedback with a focus on the guiding themes, facilitating a better understanding of required cooperation as CAV technologies advance and become more prevalent.
From page 35...
... Stakeholder Outreach 35 members from the one state transportation agency offered to take part in a focus group, the project team decided to use the opportunity to gather input on lessons learned and suggestions regarding educational materials and approaches. Results thereby serve as input into the education plan that was part of this study.

... 36 Preparing Transportation Agencies for Connected and Automated Vehicles in Work Zones analyzed. While the thematic framework and coding and charting were carried out by one primary analyst, the outcomes were reviewed by the project team.
From page 37...
... Stakeholder Outreach 37 • An annotated presentation providing an overview of CAV and infrastructure-based technologies and how these technologies may improve work zone safety.
