Chaikin Professor of National Health Policy, is in his second term as chairman of the congressionally legislated Prospective Payment Assessment Commission, which oversees the Medicare hospital payment system. Between 1971 and 1976, Dean Altman was deputy assistant secretary for planning and evaluation/health in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
