To indicate the flavor of the second day's discussion, some direct quotes from that day's panel presentations are interspersed throughout the text of this document. The workshops came about because CDC, through ACIP, asked IOM's Vaccine Safety Forum to sponsor an activity at which the issues surrounding polio vaccination strategies could be discussed in an open setting where ideas could be freely exchanged without the necessity of reaching consensus and making conclusions.
