The Conference directs specific attention to the CGS/ETS Study currently nearing completion and urges that the results of that study be carefully examined and used to the fullest possible extent. The initial assessment study should be one of surveying the quality of scholarship and research and the effectiveness of Ph.D.

We propose a simultaneous study exploring ways of reviewing goals of graduate education other than research and scholarship. This would involve review of other doctoral programs and selected master's programs.
