Workshop and Meetings WORKSHOP Improving Diversity of the Genomics Workforce: A Workshop October 5, 2021 To learn more about this workshop, click here. This workshop discussed challenges and opportunities in improving diversity in the genomics workforce. Workshop participants considered key barriers to diversity, but spent much of their time focusing on the potential solutions. Some of these suggested solutions included providing mentorship, establishing a holistic admissions process to higher education programs, creating internship and shadowing opportunities, and fostering safe spaces. Speakers shared about their own experiences and discussed how we can make the field more inclusive for the next generation. During 2021, the Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health explored important topics including diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in the genetics and genomics workforce; case studies of innovation in the genetics and genomics spaces that have led to creative ways to approach clinical care; and barriers and facilitators of the adoption of genomics-based tools in clinical care. As part of the strategic plan that was adopted in 2020, the work of the Roundtable is centered on four main areas: Innovation, Dialogue, Equity, and Adoption. This annual report summarizes the activities of the roundtable in 2021.
