Statement of Task
An ad hoc committee will plan and conduct a 1-day public workshop on the effects of involvement with the juvenile justice system on the health of adolescents, families, and communities of color. The committee will define the specific topics to be discussed, develop the agenda, suggest and invite speakers, and moderate workshop discussions. This workshop may include discussions of youth confinement, adverse childhood events, policing practices, and the potential influence of mental health problems and substance use on involvement with the juvenile justice system. An individually authored proceedings of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
The planning committee will comprise individuals with expertise in juvenile justice, health disparities, and mental health/substance use issues.
